SAMUEL PRIOLEAU

Elected intendant September 6, 1824, succeeding John Geddes. Succeeded by Joseph Johnson, September 1825.
Born 1784, died August 10, 1840, in Pendleton, South Carolina.
Son of Philip Prioleau and Alice Edith Honeyard, married Hannah Motte Hamilton 1811; married second, her sister Elizabeth Lynch Hamilton 1818. (Prioleau's wives were sisters of James Hamilton, Jr., his predecessor as intendant.)
Attended University of Pennsylvania, studied law in Charleston under William Drayton, admitted to bar in 1808 and became Drayton's partner. 
Member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church.
Represented St. Philip's and St. Michael's parishes in State House during four General Assemblies, 1819-1825, resigning when he was elected Charleston's city recorder.
