JOHN PALMER GAILLARD, JR. 

Elected mayor December 11, 1959, succeeding William M. Morrison. Re-elected 1963, 1967, and 1971. Resigned to accept the position of deputy assistant secretary of the U. S. Navy for reserve affairs; succeeded by Arthur B. Schirmer, Jr., August 1975.
Born 1920, died July 28, 2006, buried in St. Philip's Episcopal churchyard.
Son of J. Palmer Gaillard and Eleanor Lucas, married Lucy Foster 1944.
Businessman, established Seaboard Lumber & Supply Company in 1947; 1975-1985 vice-president of Ruscon Corporation.
Served four years in U. S. Navy beginning December 1941.
Twice elected to Charleston City Council, 1951 and 1955.
